The Nervous system is a very complex but important organ system that lets different parts of the body communicate with each other. It contains specialised cells that coordinate the actions of the animal called Neurons.
The nervous system is made up of two sections called the Central and the Peripheral nervous systems. The brain and the spinal cord are both parts of the body that are included in the Central nervous system. The Peripheral nervous system consists of clusters of neurons called ganglia, sensory neurons, and nerves that connect the two together with the central nervous system. All of the nerves connect together with neural pathways. The Enteric nervous system is a subsystem of the Peripheral nervous system. The Enteric nervous system has the capacity through its primary connection by the vagus nerve, to function independently in controlling the gastrointestinal system, even when severed from the rest of the nervous system.
